Step  2.

To make the basket, follow the steps of the Easter Wooden Basket craft, using a light bright fuzzy stick handle. To make a wood grain look, first paint the basket with tan paint. While it’s still wet, lightly brush dark brown paint on it.

  • TIP: Don’t cover the sticks completely — some of the tan paint should still show through.

Put your students’ motor skills to the test with this Autumn-inspired craft project!

All In One Basket: Students discover new ways to use their fine motor skills by working with supplies like fuzzy sticks, paint, wooden beads, and craft sticks. Twisting, painting, and gluing strengthens muscles in their hands and fingers while they create a wonderful festive fall craft!  In a Nutshell: Make this craft a group project! While one student creates the basket, have another student create the acorns — this exercise will cultivate communication and social skills with peers, and even help form friendships!

Besides being a source of artistic inspiration and motor skill practice, acorns serve as an important object in many cultures. As a creative class exercise, explore how acorns are used around the world with your students and brainstorm different ways to use them in your classroom!
