Use a paper plate and some coffee filters to create a festive firework wreath for the 4th of July! In this project we'll show you two different techniques for blending colors on coffee filters!

Materials

  • Neon Fuzzy Sticks
  • Rainbow Fuzzy Sticks
  • Paint Dab Markers
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun ***May Require Adult Assistance
  • Large Paper Plate
  • Coffee Filters
  • Dropper

Instructions

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

In the first technique, start by dampening a coffee filter and place on a paper plate.

Step 3.

Dot blue and red paint dab markers all over the coffee filter until you’re happy with how it looks. You can see the colors bleed a little into each other.

Step 4.

In the second technique, dot red and blue paint dab markers all over a dry coffee filter.

Step 5.

Use a dropped to make the colors bleed. We found this technique worked better for a tie dye effect.

Step 6.

This is what the filters look like dry! The red and blue one was made with the dropper and the red, white and blue one was dampened first.

Step 7.

Once the filters are dry, cut slits about 3/4 of the way to the middle.

Step 8.

Fold the filters in half.

Step 9.

Fold in half again.

Step 10.

Twist the bottom point so the filter flairs out. Set aside.

Step 11.

Cut out the center of the paper plate.

Step 12.

Wrap fuzzy sticks around the rim of the plate: red, white, blue, red, white, blue, etc.

Step 13.

When the rim is covered, glue on the coffee filter “fireworks”.
