Paint the Craft Sticks

Step  1.

Begin by painting four craft sticks with the color of your choice. Consider applying two layers of paint to ensure a rich, even color for a more vibrant look. It’s best to use wider craft sticks for this project, as they provide a sturdier frame for your lantern. Let it dry. This foundation will form the structural base of your enchanting unicorn lantern.

Assembling the Frame

Step  2.

Next, assemble the frame of your lantern by gluing the painted craft sticks together. Apply hot or tacky glue to both ends of each craft stick to form a square shape. Press the ends firmly together and hold for a few seconds to ensure a strong bond. Allow the glue to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Painting & Assembling the Horn

Step  3.

Paint three narrow craft sticks silver or any color of your choice. These sticks will become the horn of your unicorn lantern. Apply a second coat if needed for a more vibrant and even finish.

Apply glue to the top of one of the painted craft sticks. Press the second craft stick onto it to create the horn shape. Use scissors to cut two 1-inch-long pieces from the third craft stick. Glue these two pieces diagonally onto the back of the horn. This will ensure the horn stays securely in place as the charming centerpiece of your unicorn lantern.

Attaching the Horn and Ears

Step  4.

Start by painting two narrow craft sticks with white paint or a color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry completely. Once dry, cut both sticks in half. To form each ear, apply glue to the top edge of one half, then press another half onto it at an angle resembling a triangle- without the bottom part. Repeat this process with the remaining halves to create the second ear.

Let’s bring the unicorn’s mane to life! Begin by cutting each craft stick to a length of 2 inches, except for one, which should be slightly longer at 2.5 inches. Glue the longer stick to the front of the frame at the center. Then, attach the two shorter sticks on each side of the longer stick to create the fringe. Finally, glue the remaining craft sticks, representing the side mane, onto the side of the frame.
