DIY Terrarium with Recycled Cups

Make a terrarium out of a paper and plastic cup and watch the seeds sprout and grow into beautiful flowers!

Foam Sheet (Orange)

Seeds (Any Kind)

Gather your supplies.

Paint the paper cup and craft sticks in whatever colors you’d like (we used green and yellow). Then let them dry completely.

Use stickers to customize your cup. We spelled “Katie’s Sunflowers!”

To make decorative flowers, glue some yellow and orange craft buttons around the cup, leaving room to add petals.

Paint petals around the buttons and other designs on the cup.

Cut a small flower shape out of the orange foam. Glue a button in the middle of the flower.

Glue the flower to the painted crafts stick. Paint the stem and write the name of the flower on the stick as a label.

Fill the paper cup with the potting soil and gently plant the seeds. Add a small amount of water.

To finish the terrarium, place the plastic cup on top of the paper one. This will create a greenhouse effect and help the seeds sprout. We used a little bit of clear tape to keep the top cup in place.

 

Remove the tape when watering your seeds. When the seeds have sprouted above the lip of the paper cup, remove the terrarium lid completely. Once the weather is warm, you can plant your flowers outside! 

Step  9.

To finish the terrarium, place the plastic cup on top of the paper one. This will create a greenhouse effect and help the seeds sprout. We used a little bit of clear tape to keep the top cup in place.
