Beaded Leprechaun Hat


Weave together pony beads following our instructions and create your own Leprechaun hat bead pet for St. Patrick’s Day!

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

 

 

Step 2.

 

Cut your Braiding Cord to 60 inches in length. Stiffen both ends by rolling it between your finger with a dab of craft glue. Allow glue to dry. This will help when threading the beads.

 

Step 3.

 

Create a lark knot on the key ring. To learn how to create a lark knot, click here. To create Row 1, thread (4) green Pony Beads onto the left hand string.

 

Step 4.

 

Take your right hand string and lace back through the beads from the other end. Pull cords tight to form this row of your Leprechaun Hat Bead Shape. Watch this video to review our bead pet technique in action!

 

Step 5.

 

To create Row 2, thread the following through the left hand string: (6) green beads. Repeat steps 4 to create Row 2.

 

Step 6.

 

To create Row 3, thread the following through the left hand string: (7)green pony beads. Repeat step 4 to create Row 3.

 

Step 7.

 

To create Row 4, thread the following through the left hand string: (8) green pony beads. Repeat step 4 to create Row 4.

 

Step 8.

 

To create Row 5, thread the following through the left hand string: (2) black, (4) yellow, and (2) black beads. Repeat step 4 to complete Row 5. This is the belt and buckle for the hat.

 

Step 9.

 

To create Row 6, thread the following through the left hand string: (2) black, (1) yellow, (2) black, (1) yellow, and (2) black pony beads. Repeat step 4 to complete Row 6.

 

Step 10.

 

To create Row 7, thread the following through the left hand string: (2) black, (4) yellow, (2) black pony beads. Repeat step 4 to complete Row 7. Rows 5-7 are the buckle and band of the leprechaun hat.

 

Step 11.

 

To create Row 8, thread the following through the left hand string: (11) green pony beads. Repeat step 4 to complete Row 8.

 

Step 12.

 

To create Row 9, thread the following through the left hand string: (13) green pony beads. Repeat step 4 to complete Row 9.T o secure your key chain, tie a tight double knot at the end of the cord, making sure the knot is snug against the beads. Trim excess thread with scissors. Your leprechaun hat bead pet is now complete!
