Step 1. Gather your supplies.
Ball up a piece of newspaper and stuff it into a paper bag. Mold the paper into the shape of a bird’s head and wrap a green Fuzzy Stick around the bag to secure.
Stuff another ball of newspaper into the bag to form the body of the parrot. Fold one side of the bag in and tape to secure. Leave the other side of the bag out to form a short tail.
To form the beak, first cut a small paper plate in half. Then cut slits in the plate all along the curved edge, about an inch apart.
Curve the plate to form a beak shape.
Use tape to secure the plate to the head as shown.
To make the feet, begin by cutting (2) Fuzzy Sticks in half. Twist (3) of the pieces together in the middle leaving an inch untwisted on each end.
Fold the Fuzzy Stick feet in half and tape to the bottom of the parrot. Bend the Fuzzy Sticks to create the legs and feet.
Use Acrylic Paint to decorate the body and beak of your parrot. Set aside to dry.
To create the wings, you need one Fuzzy Stick in each of the rainbow colors: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple, and Orange. Fold a red Fuzzy Stick in half and twist the end closed. Loosely loop the Fuzzy Stick in your fingers to create a wave design as shown.
Repeat Step 10 with a yellow Fuzzy Stick. When complete, attach the yellow Fuzzy Stick to the red one by twisting the pieces together.
Repeat Step 10 with each of the remaining Fuzzy Sticks. Attach each finished wave design to the original red Fuzzy Stick. Create a second wing for your parrot by repeating Steps 10-12. Put wings aside for a later step.
To create a colorful tail, twist together the top of Fuzzy Sticks in the following colors: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple, and Orange.
Curl the ends of the Fuzzy Sticks to create a beautiful tail as shown. Put the tail aside for a later step.
To secure the parrot -attach it to a foam base. Begin by pushing a Craft Stick into the tail of the parrot as shown (you might want to secure with a dab of glue). Next push the craft stick into the foam base.
Use glue to attach the parrot’s feet to the foam base. This will help the parrot stand on the base.
Now you can decorate your foam base with leaves from green construction paper. Tip: fold your paper in half and draw half a leaf shape on the folded edge.
Glue leaves onto the foam base. Tip: cut different leave shapes in different sizes and different shades of green for a unique look.
Use craft glue to attach Wiggly Eyes to the parrot’s head, a Fuzzy Stick wing to each side of the parrot’s body and the beautiful rainbow tail to finish your paper bag parrot sculpture.
