Patriotic Key Chain

Thread Pony Beads in a distinct pattern to create an American Flag bead project.

Materials

  • Hemp Cord
  • Red Pony Beads
  • White Pony Beads
  • Scissors
  • Key Chain Clip

Instructions

 

Step 1. Gather your materials.

 

 

 Step 2.

 

Using 4 feet of Hemp Cord, tie a larks head knot around your key chain ring so that you have two strands each measuring about 2 feet. To learn how to make a Larks Head Knot, click here.

 

 Step 3.

 

Row 1: On the strand to the left add (3) blue Pony Beads and on the strand to the right add (1) white Pony Bead, (1) red Pony Bead and (1) white bead.

 

 Step 4.

 

Slide a thin piece of craft wire (the length of the beads) through all beads in Row 1. Cut off any excess wire.

 

 Step 5.

 

Row 2: On your left strand add (3) blue beads followed by (1) white bead, (1) red bead and (1) white bead. Lace the right cord through the same row in the opposite direction.

 

 Step 6.

 

Row 3: On your left strand add (3) blue beads followed by (1) white bead, (1) red bead and (1) white bead. Lace the right cord through the same row in the opposite direction.

 

 Step 7.

 

Row 4: On your left strand add (1) red bead, (1) white bead, (1) red bead, (1) white bead, (1) red bead, (1) white bead. Lace the right cord through the same row in the opposite direction.
 

 

 Step 8.

 

Rows 5-7: Repeat Step 7.

 

 Step 9.

 

To secure your key chain, tie a tight double knot at the end of the cord, making sure the knot is snug against the beads.
 

 

 Step 10.

 

Repeat knot on both sides. Cut off excess cord. Clip onto desired surface and enjoy!
