  • 25 Pack Assorted Paint Brushes
  • Green Fuzzy Sticks
  • Washable Paint Jars
  • 3/16″ Round Dowels 16 Pack
  • Scissors
  • Craft Glue
  • Tissue paper - shades of yellow
  • 2 small paper plates
  • Stapler **May require adult assistance
  • Masking Tape

Instructions

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

Use a foam sponge brush to paint the bottom of one paper plate with dark brown Washable Paint. Make sure to leave the texture that is created by the sponge brush for a unique look. Put aside to dry.

Step 3.

Cut the following from your yellow tissue paper: (6) large triangles, (8) medium triangles and (10) small triangles shapes.  These will be your sunflower petals.

Step 4.

Take your second paper plate and line the edge with craft glue as shown.

Step 5.

Place your larger triangles around the edge of the plate. Tip: about 1/2 inch of each triangle should be glued to the plate as shown.

Step 6.

Once you have completed the large triangles, place a second layer of glue along the edge of the plate. The glue will overlap the large triangles!

Step 7.

Create 2 additional layers of petals by repeating steps 5 and 6 with the medium and small tissue paper triangles. These triangles will overlap the large triangles, just like you find on a real sunflower in nature.

Step 8.

Tape a Wood Dowel to the center of the paper plate, lining up the dowel with the 1/2 inch gap you created at the bottom of the plate created in step 6.

Step 9.

Line the edge of the painted plate from step 2 with glue.

Step 10.

Place painted plate on top of the plate with the petals. This creates your sunflower shape!

Step 11.

For added stability, staple the plates together in 4 places. This may require the help of an adult.

Step 12.

Wrap a green Fuzzy Stick around the exposed part of the Round Dowel to make your stem green in color.

Step 13.

Using craft glue, add yellow Glitter Poms in the middle of the sunflower. You can cut Glitter Poms in half and spread around to create a beautiful glittery center for your sunflower. Once dry, you will be able to brighten the inside of your home or classroom with this glittery Sunflower Art project!
