Create a beaded tile inspired by Turkish Tile making using a provided template and pony beads!
- Private: Dark Pearl Pony Beads
- Red Pony Beads
- White Pony Beads
- cardboard - 5 x 5 inch piece
- Template (download on our website)
- Craft Glue
|Step 1. Gather your supplies.|
For this project, we have provided a template you can download by clicking the “template” button under the picture of the Turkish Tile project. Page 1 of the template is blank so that you can fill in your own design, as shown here. After drawing your design, fill in each square with a letter that corresponds to a bead color.
Page 2 of the template contains a pre-printed design we created. Colors are already listed on each square with a key that shows what the letters represent.
Cut out your template and glue to a piece of cardboard that is cut to the same size as the template.
Apply glue to each square and place on a bead with a coordinating color to that listed on your template. We used Pony Beads for our tile.
Continue placing the glue and beads row by row until your design is complete.
You will now have a gorgeous tile to display!
Further Discussion: Decorative Turkish Mosaic tiles date back to the 8th century and can by seen throughout examples of Byzantine, Islamic and Ottoman art and architecture. Much of the art follows simple geometric shapes and patterns.
Have students make their own designs by creating patterns out of simple geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles and triangles.
