  • Take It Slow: Learning how to spell words starts with one letter at a time — so practice just like a turtle! Encourage your students to take their time spelling by slowly saying each letter as they point to it.
  • Pop-Out of the Shell: Pinching the clothespin to watch the turtle peek out from its shell will improve finger and hand muscles. These fine motor skills are important for strengthening movements like writing, buttoning, and zippering.

Aesop’s Fables are popular children’s stories that teach moral lessons — one of the most famous stories is The Tortoise and The Hare. Introduce your students to this story, but before reading, ask them a couple of questions: Which character is fastest? Which one is slowest? Who do you think will win the race? After reading the fable, ask your students this question: What lesson did both animals learn during their race?
