Instructions

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

Cut the lid off the egg carton. Paint the inside of the lid brown and the sides green.  We used a styrofoam egg carton that has a center support piece on the lid. We left that part white.

Step 3.

Cut out (6) egg carton cups from the bottom pf the egg carton.

Step 4.

Paint one cup red with white dots. This will be the top of the mushroom. Set aside to dry.

Step 5.

Glue a large red pom on the center support piece from step 2.

Step 6.

To finish the mushroom, glue the top of the mushroom on the pom.

Step 7.

Trim (2) egg carton cups to be about 1” deep each.

Step 8.

To make the body of the snail, place a mini stick between the 2 egg carton cups, and glue the pieces together, as shown.

Step 9.

Paint the snail and glue on wiggly eyes. Let dry.

Step 10.

To finish the snail, cut a small piece of a neon green fuzzy stick. Fold it in half to create antennae and glue it to the snail’s head.

Step 11.

Trim (3) egg carton cups to be even sizes.

Step 12.

Glue the egg cartons together, as shown, to create the gnome.

Step 13.

Paint the top egg carton cup light tan for the head. Paint the middle green for the body, and paint the last egg carton cup brown to make the tree stump the gnome is sitting on.

Step 14.

Next we will make the hat for the gnome. Cut a triangle shape out of green foam. The bottom of the triangle should be slightly rounded.

Step 15.

Roll the foam triangle to make a cone and glue the edges.

Tip: You can use a little tape or a paper clip to hold the hat together until the glue dries.

Step 16.

Once dry, glue the hat to the gnome’s head.

Step 17.

Glue small white poms around the gnome to make his hair and beard. Use mini poms to make a mustache.

Step 18.

To complete your gnome, glue on wiggly eyes.

Step 19.

Cut a piece of green construction paper lengthwise into 4 strips. Loosely fold 2 pieces together several times.

Step 20.

Cut strips in the green paper, making sure not to cut all the way through the paper.  Repeat with the remaining 2 strips on construction paper.

Step 21.

Unfold the cut strips of paper and glue them around the outside edges of the egg carton lid to create grass.  Trim off any extra paper.

Step 22.

Add your gnome and snail to the woodland scene. You can move the creatures around, or you can glue them into place.  Use your imagination to make and add other plants and insects to the scene!
