Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

To make the frame for your handmade paper, begin by taking (4) craft sticks and glue them together to form a square using a waterproof glue. Repeat to make (2) squares.

Step 3.

Cut a square piece of window screen netting that is about 1/2 inch larger on each side than the craft square.

Step 4.

Have an adult staple the netting to the wooden square. Be careful with this step and using the stapler in an open position!

Step 5.

Use waterproof glue to adhere a second wood frame to the net covered frame, as shown.

Step 6.

Repeat step 2 to create one more square using wood craft sticks. This is the deckle which will mold the paper into a square form. Watch our video to see these tools in action.

Add elements of nature

Add elements of nature, such as leaves or pieces of trees, to your pulp to create unique handmade paper.

Plant your paper

Compliment an earth science lesson with this craft, by creating handmade paper with seeds. Plant your paper and grow into new flowers!

Add Friendship Thread

Cut pieces of thread and add to paper for unique textures. Flip the paper over and you can see this thread creates embossed designs.

Add other craft materials

Add sparkle and shine to your handmade paper by including glitter or sequins into the pulp mixture.
