Shape up things for the new year with geometrical snowflakes!

  • Symmetrical Flakes: When an object is symmetrical, it means it’s the same on both sides if there was a line dividing it in the middle. Are your craft snowflakes the same on both sides? What about the shapes used to create them?
  • Let it Snow: Just like real snowflakes, every one of your students’ crafts will be unique. Once they get the hang of the craft, introduce other shapes like triangles, circles, or squares. How will this change the shape of their snowflakes?

Shapes are used in art, architecture, and even engineering! Smaller shapes often build bigger structures — watch how easy it is to make large shapes with smaller ones using blocks! Look around the classroom — can your students find any objects with similar traits?
