  • Lady Liberty: Although the Statue of Liberty is made from copper, it looks green because of all the time she’s spent in the elements. Give your students the choice to create their craft with multicolor sparkles, green glitter, or champagne gold glitter to give it that weathered, copper tone!
  • Her Symbols: Lady Liberty holds a gold-leaf torch in her right hand to symbolize freedom. In her left arm, she carries documents with the roman numerals, “July IV MDCCLXXVI,” or July 4th, 1776, which represents the date that the Declaration of Independence was signed! What other symbols are displayed on the statue — what do her crown or the chains at her feet signify?

The Statue of Liberty overlooks Manhattan from the New York Harbor — explore it inside and out with a virtual field trip. Then, watch and learn how the National Parks Service created this 3D virtual tour with your students.
