Soar high with this craft stick canvas project & discover the amazing history of bald eagles in the United States!

  • National Bird: The bald eagle became the national symbol of the United States on June 20, 1782, when the Second Continental Congress selected it. Since then, the bird continues to appear on official government documents, currency, and more. Where have your students seen this symbol before?
  • Soaring Symbol: How would your class describe a bald eagle? While crafting, go around the room and ask each student for an adjective — write each one on the board to create an entire list of associated words!

One of the reasons the United States adopted the bald eagle as its national bird is because these creatures are unique to North America. Check out this National Geographic Kids map to explore where they live and 5 reasons why bald eagles are the best!
